What happened to Express?
Main Post:
Let me preface this by saying that I just started working mostly in-person again in 2024 after a combination of being on maternity leave/SAHM/fully remote worker since 2020. Prior to then, Express was one of my go-to stores for work attire and dressier outfits for events and nights out. I remember them always having a great sale at New Year’s too.
Fast forward to present day and I decided to check the prices on a few pieces that caught my eye. Only one of them is on sale! I decided to treat myself with the best and dress, but was bummed that there’s really not many good deals. The in-store experience is also pretty sad at my one remaining local store. There’s rarely anything appealing on the racks and tables out front and they’re more sparse than I remember. The sale section is huge now but I haven’t had any desire to really sort through it. I miss the old Express! What happened?
Top Comment: Express has always been expensive but I do think something happened to their styles in the past 10 years or so. Or maybe my sense of style is still stuck in the 2010's and it's my own problem? LOL I just remember them having a lot of nicer quality pieces that I could wear to the office. Now when I go onto their website some of their stuff looks like the same crap sold on Walmart's website or on Amazon. I hate that this is a thing now because if I'm shopping on Express website, I clearly want to buy THEIR brands, NOT Amazon brands. This is why I rarely shop at Target online now because you have to filter out all of the junk brands that aren't even Target brands. Awful.

Has anybody purchased from Express in the recent years? How is their quality now?
I was able to score these coats for $36, but I'm still debating on keeping or returning one or both. I live in SoCal so these would not be worn regularly.

Navy Double Breasted Textured Boucle Wool-blend Peacoat
Top Comment: For starters, $36 for these coats is a pretty good deal; if you get 2 seasons out of them, it’ll be worth it. I shopped at Express a lot about 15 years ago when I started working on my wardrobe, and it was a good stepping stone for me. Eventually I stopped buying from them, though, because the quality just wasn’t good for my everyday work attire. The colors would fade, the edges of the garments would get tattered, and they would show signs of wear pretty quickly. Honestly, for the price you can get better quality at the department stores. These coats for you? Probably just fine. As you said, you’re not going to use them hard, and they’re styled pretty classically so you don’t have to worry about them going out of trend. They’ll be decently warm, I suspect, during the balmy SoCal winters. I say: keep one or both, and enjoy!

This may be an unpopular opinion but does anyone else think Express clothing has gone downhill? I used to love Express. Their pants were always such great quality and they had great career tops. I browsed the site recently and did not like any of their tops. I found that most of them were crop and didn’t look that great in quality. Maybe I’m just older now or not in tune with the style (I refuse to wear crop tops lol) but I was so sad at not being able to find anything at one of my favorite stores.
Top Comment: This is how I feel about almost all of my usual go to stores. Idk if I just aged a million years during the pandemic or what, but everything everywhere just feels low budge and too young for me. I do believe that you can wear whatever you want at whatever age you are, but cmon. Every single thing in Express the other day was a crop top or a body suit. Crop tops are a no for me. A body suit I don’t mind once and while but I also don’t want to have to deal with it every time I go to the bathroom. Idk, I agree with what you’re saying OP. It’s all very strange.

What are your thoughts on Express clothing & how it fits?
Main Post:
29F & I’ve always found Express fits true to size. Women’s US 10 & typically a M-L in shirts, I don’t think I’ve ever bought something from Express that doesn’t fit & only ever shopped online. They have good sales & I wonder if the sizing is also because it’s “designer”?
Top Comment: It seems like the material is good quality, and I appreciate they have things like trousers to order in tall. Though seems like I still always have to get them altered.

I bought my homecoming and prom dresses from here.
Top Comment: No surprise. Their quality went the way of Shien but their prices stayed the same. I still have a pair of jeans that are great but newer pairs feel like plastic. My wife says the same
